Sunrise!!

I received this photo as a text message (sms) from a good friend of mine. He was out camping with his boys. As they awoke and opened the front of the tent, this was the awe inspiring, jaw – dropping view that held them captivated.

There is something about nature that is awesome, whether it is a summer’s day with the sun gleaming through the sky or the strength of a hurricane ripping its way through a town; it captivates the mind of all mankind one way or another, either by admiration or fear.

Surely, nature did not just happen by chance? The Bible says that God created all things (Genesis 1:1, cf. Job 38:4-7; Isa 42:5; Ps 33:6).

yet man does not see in creation the creator. Paul in Romans puts it a better way:

19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Romans 1:19-23, cf. Ps 19:1.

When we see the beauty and magnitude of nature, we forget the beauty and magnitude of the one who created it, or as Paul is saying in Romans ‘we suppress the truth and worship the created instead of the creator’, we suppress it because we don’t want to believe it, cf. Eph 4:18.

Well, that’s my ramble over for now. I have to say thanks to my Friend for sending me the pic, hope you didn’t get eaten alive by ‘midges’.
